That tidal wave of the future is breaking over our heads right now. Like it or not, it's time to grab a Godly website and go surfing for souls.

Church websites all too soon will be the village bulletin board or the office water cooler of old -- places where people meet and discuss what matters to them. Your website should be their starting point, the site greeting members when they log onto the Internet.

Brothers and sisters, the future is now! It's time to fan the spark of evangelism into full flame. Here are some ways available for your website right now:

RESPONSIVE PRAYER ROOM, open 24 hours a day, would email each request to prayer-chain leaders, perhaps trigger a pager for emergencies. It would automatically post requests for prayer warriors to see, quickly show updates for better focused prayers. It would have an autoresponder immediately answer with a caring message, offering soothing Scripture and a number to call for crisis counseling.

SERMON OR MESSAGE SERIES would be an innovative draw. Pastors could preach literally around the world for next to nothing compared to the high cost of radio broadcasts. This works well for youth meetings, classes and choir specials. Clipstream allows 12 audio selections on your site for only $18 a month. You can stream videos, too.

DISCIPLESHIP DISCUSSION PAGE for those intensive courses that require daily study time and reflection. A one- hour class each week typically isn't enough to share all God is revealing. Such a webpage for each major course would help leaders reinforce teaching points while keeping people interested and thus counteracting attrition. Drop-in visitors just might be inspired to join the fun and sign up for a class.

DAILY DEVOTIONALS from your church's or area's or denomination's contributors. Call for devotionals based on a certain format. What a spiritually enriching blessing to see members inspired to write! Such grassroots participation would insure people will visit who ordinarily wouldn't. It might even become a fund-raiser to sell in book form. Not enough submissions? Then go with a devotional of the week.

QUALITY QUIET TIME from a wonderful assortment of online Bibles and computerized Bible-study materials, such as those freely available at Christian sites, in addition to the devotionals. You could even have a whole hymnal available online in MIDI form for personal listening enjoyment or use on tape in piano-less worship services. Another challenge not yet seen on the Internet would be an online Promise Book, which could be linked to the prayer room page as well.

CYBER MANNA keeps Spiritually hungry visitors coming back to your website for more: In addition to previously mentioned online Bible-study materials and software, (1) add Christian search engines to brightly light the way across the dark Internet toward Divine destinations, (2) offer a testimony page to let people give glory to God, (3) crank up an entertaining site for youth group online fun and games, (4) provide a chat room for those who need to talk to someone, (5) make beautiful virtual postcards available to bless and encourage one another, (6) set up a computer adoption agency that'll help find loving church homes for orphaned PCs, and (7) establish a clearinghouse of needs and surpluses where blessed churches can link with churches that have not.
